windshield crack repair windshield repair cost

 Q. Is there a limit to the size of breaks that can be repaired?
A. YES,  Long cracks can sometimes be repaired, but the results are usually unsatisfactory. The crack will still be visible, and the overall strength of the glass is compromised. We recommend replacing a windshield that has long cracks.

 Q. Will I be able to see the chip after it's repaired?
A. YES, Once repaired, most chips will be less noticable after the repair, but you will most likely still be able to see the outline. Some chips repairs look better than others. The sooner a chip is repaired after the damage has occurred improves the chances of a cleaner repair, but other factors like the size of the impact, how much glass was crushed on impact and what area of the windshield is damaged will effect the the likelihood of a satisfactory repair.

 Q. What is the driver's "critical viewing area"?
A. The driver's critical viewing area is a section of the windshield directly in front of the driver when they are sitting in the vehicle facing forward. Chip repairs are not recommended in this area of the windshield since the break will still be visible and a possible distraction.

 Q. Will a repair keep my windshield from continuing to crack?
A. Having a chip repair done on your vehicle will strengthen the break and help keep it from cracking. However it is still a weak point in your windshield and can possibly continue to crack from there, especially if the windshield gets under a high amount of stress.

 Q. Is there a chance of my windshield breaking or getting worse while a repair is being done?
A. Yes, but it is rare. The glass is in a fragile state and is put under some stress during the repair process and can get worse. This is more likely to happen if the break is close to the edge of the glass where it is bonded to the vehicle.  If we see that the damage is getting worse we will remove our equipment in an attempt to remove any pressure and to stop it from continuing to spread, but this does mean that your only option is to buy a new windshield.

 Q. How much does a chip repair cost?
Most times a chip repair will cost $100.00 or less.  We give you free estimates on chip repairs.

 Q. How long does it take to do a chip repair?
A typical chip repair will take under 30 minutes to complete

 Q. Is a chip repair as good as a new windshield?
No, you still have a broke windshield after a chip repair is complete.  A liquid resin is injected into the break to strengthen and seal it.  This lessens the chance of the break getting worse.

 Q.  What are the positives and negatives of chip repairs?

FAQ Rock Chip Questions

A windshield chip repair is a cheaper alternative to getting your entire windshield replaced.  Once we inspect the damaged area and determine it is repairable we can inject it with a liquid resin that will bond to the break in the windshield and make it less likely to crack further.

A chip repair does not remove the break from your windshield. It only bonds to the broken glass to strengthen it.  You will always be able to see some part of the damage after the repair is complete.  Depending on the type of break and severity of the impact some repairs will be almost totally invisible, but others will show only minor improvement in appearance.

Windshield repair technology forces the air out of the glass and replaces it with a resin. This resin cures to produce a windshield repair that is much stronger than if it is left unrepaired.  You will still see the mark or "scar" on your windshield. This is normal. Best case scerenio a repair will look like a minor blemish, some customers say like a bug speck, on your glass, but chips that have a harder impact and more crushed glass in the damaged area will leave more of a scar on the windshield after repaired.  Review the information below for some of the most common questions about chip repair.

The impact point is the point on the windshield where it gets hit and fractures the glass.  You will always be able to see and feel the impact point on the surface of the windshield.
